Steven Soderbergh's original trilogy is one continuous heist story with the same core crew. Ocean's Eight (2018) is a same-universe spinoff, not a sequel to Thirteen — it follows Debbie Ocean, Danny's sister, and an entirely new all-female crew; Danny is referenced as deceased but the film needs nothing from the trilogy to make sense.

Ocean's Eight can be watched any time; skip it first if you want the trilogy's momentum uninterrupted, or watch it first if the trilogy's plot mechanics matter less to you than getting to a self-contained film faster.
