The Matrix Watch Order (All 4 Films, 2026)

The Matrix · Updated Sep 15, 2026

Four films, one continuous story, no branching timelines — the only real question with The Matrix is whether to bother with the 18-year-later legacy sequel. Release order is chronological order throughout.

The trilogy

1.
The Matrix (1999) — TMDB 603
2.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003) — TMDB 604
3.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003) — TMDB 605

The legacy sequel

1.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021) — TMDB 624860

Where to start if you only have a weekend

The original Matrix (1999) is a complete story on its own and the only truly essential entry. Reloaded and Revolutions were shot back-to-back and should be watched together if you continue; Resurrections is optional and largely a meta-commentary on the franchise's legacy rather than a straight continuation.
