The Hunger Games Watch Order (All 6 Films, 2026)

The Hunger Games · Updated Sep 15, 2026

The original tetralogy tells one continuous story and release order doubles as story order for those four films; two prequels made years later are set decades earlier in-universe but were written as prequels reflecting back on the world Katniss inherits, so they're best watched after the originals, in the order they were released.

The original saga

1.
The Hunger Games (2012) — TMDB 70160
2.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) — TMDB 101299
3.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) — TMDB 131631
4.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) — TMDB 131634

The prequels

1.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) — TMDB 695721 — set 64 years before the original, following a young Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games
2.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) — TMDB 1300968 — set 24 years before the original, during the 50th Games' Second Quarter Quell

Where to start if you only have a weekend

Watch the original film alone — it's a complete story and the franchise's best entry point. If it clicks, Catching Fire is a straight improvement and worth the immediate follow-up; the prequels can wait.
