Michael Myers has three separate, mutually-exclusive continuities, each of which throws out some or all of the sequels before it. There is no single watch order — you have to pick a timeline. All three start from the same 1978 original.
The original timeline (1978–1981)
Thorn Trilogy branch (ignores H20/Resurrection)
Continues from Halloween II, then jumps forward with a new mythology.

Picks up 40 years after the 1978 original only — Laurie Strode's other sequels never happened.

Where to start if you only have a weekend
Watch the 1978 original, then jump straight to the 2018 Halloween — it's a direct sequel to only the first film and gives you the cleanest, most modern take without any of the branching continuity above.
