Origin Films vs. Team-Up Movies: Which Ones a Household Can Skip

Superhero franchises tend to alternate between two very different kinds of entry, and only one of them is actually required watching if a household is short on time.
The origin film
Man of Steel (2013) and Wonder Woman (2017) are both origin films — self-contained, one character, one arc, written so a first-time viewer needs no outside context. Skipping one doesn't just save time, it removes information the team-up films that follow generally assume you have.
The team-up film
Justice League (2017) is the opposite kind of entry — it assumes the audience already knows who everyone is and spends its runtime on the group dynamic, not on introductions. Watching a team-up film cold, with no origin films first, is the fastest way to a franchise for someone who wants the spectacle without the homework, but it does trade away character context the origin films were built to supply.
The actual household decision
The real question isn't "can we skip the origin films" — you usually can, since most team-up movies re-establish the basics in dialogue. It's whether the household values that extra character context enough to spend the extra runtime getting it, or whether jumping straight to the ensemble entries is the better trade for this particular group.
